branching out

Last week we took a trip to the Hillsborough River State Park, a nature sanctuary in North Tampa that perfectly captures Florida's natural beauty.  The park, as the name suggests, runs along the Hillsborough River and is virtually untouched, save for a few picnic areas.  Florida "scrub" abounds, and the branches of the state's classic cypress trees jut out over the river.  In my photos above, I've tried to capture these long, beautiful cypress branches.  If you are in the area, take a trip to the park.  It will serve as a good reminder of how all of us are responsible for preserving the natural elements of our own surroundings.

"The contemplation of things as they are, without error or confusion, without substitution or imposture, is in itself a nobler things than a whole harvest of invention." - Dorothy Lange

Dorothy Lange- the famous and brilliant photographer -kept that quote inscribed over her studio door to remind her to keep things simple. Her exhibit is being shown at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts.

morning shadows

I don't appreciate how wonderful black and white photos are. We took the dog for a walk around Ybor this morning and I captured a few of these. Speaking of under appreciated...I also forget how cool and historic Ybor is. I'm sure there will be more Ybor photos coming soon.

louis ck

We scored some tix to his stand up last Thursday and it was amazing. If you have not seen his show on FX yet here is a little clip to motivate you to start watching it.

The venue where the show was held prohibited photography! I was pretty hesitant to take any pics so I only have pre-show photos. I didn't want louis ck to call me out for being the jerk who takes photos during his show.

netflix treat

We stumbled upon a sweet documentary called 180 South. I don't want to spoil it but it included travel, climbing, environmentalism, a zen buddhist, dreams, goals, great soundtrack and such beautiful scenery! Watch the preview nooow..

Hope you can watch it and enjoy it as much as I did!

accidental pickling

We went to sweetwater organic farms today just to check it out and ended up pickling cucumbers. It was not our intention but as we were walking up to a crowd of people to see what the commotion was all about and someone handed us a jar and we were basically forced to start pickling. Can't say that I am complaining though since it was such wholesome fun.

loy krathon festival

I went to the thai temple to check out the loy krathong festival. People launch lotus shaped vessels (krathong) in the palm river to wash away their bad luck. Prior to launching they light the candle and incense and make a wish. It is considered good luck if the krathong floats away from them. To find out more about the temple click here.

I tried to take some pics but most came out blurry. Surprisingly, its hard to take photos at night. I'll post the few pics that came out ok.
